Ochoa first kicked off his professional career with USL Championship side Real Monarchs in 2018, before signing with Major League Soccer team Real Salt Lake ahead of the 2019 campaign. He went on to make 42 appearances for the Western Conference team, recording five clean sheets.

Amid the 2022 season, the goalkeeper joined D.C. United in exchange for at least $75,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM). Ochoa recorded two clean sheets in 17 appearances, before finding himself out of contract with the American league.

But the goalkeeper always had aspirations to play in Mexico.

“I also never considered a Mexican could play in Europe until I personally saw Chicharito make the jump from Chivas to Manchester United but even before my goal first was always to play in Mexico, I wouldn’t mind at all to play in Liga MX,” he said exclusively to 90min.

Internationally, Ochoa represented the United States in several youth teams before applying for FIFA’s one time switch to pledge his allegiance to Mexico.

Since making the switch, Ochoa has seen some activity with El Tri. The player featured for Mexico’s Under-21 side in a friendly against the Romanian Under-21 team, and earned his first call up by head coach Gerardo Martino for the game against Guatemala in April 2022.
