Although FC Barcelona have had a wonderful 2024-25 season overall, the Blaugranes were still unable to reach the UEFA Champions League final, as they were eliminated in the semi-finals by Inter Milan.
There is no doubt that Hansi Flick had to take the Catalan team into this semi-final tie in quite some difficult circumstances, without some of his important players. For instance, one of his starting fullbacks, Alejandro Balde, was unable to play in either leg of this tie, while the other, Jules Kounde, played only a few minutes in the first leg, during which he suffered an injury.
Thus, this tie once again showed one of the weaknesses in the Barcelona squad, i.e., lack of sufficient depth on the flanks. In fact, the Catalans seem to have already identified this weakness, as they are reportedly looking for some fullbacks in the upcoming summer transfer window.
In this regard, the favorite candidate of Flick and the sporting department is the Bayer Leverkusen fullback, Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch defender has not only been highly impressive with his performances in the Bundesliga, but is also one of the few names that attracts the Blaugrana club, and would also be an affordable option.
The Dutchman has already expressed his desire to join another side this summer, but this does not mean it will be very easy for Barcelona to get him. This is particularly because of the competition the Catalans are set to face in his pursuit.

In fact, according to a report from SPORT, the English side Liverpool are already negotiating with the fullback, and there have been some meetings between representatives of the Premier League side and the footballer.
Leverkusen are willing to part ways with the Dutchman for around €30 million, and the Merseyside club is keen to add Frimpong to their team, particularly since Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure was confirmed.
The defender himself wants to play in La Liga, but Barcelona are still facing financial problems and have a firmly established starter on the right flank, i.e., Jules Kounde. Meanwhile, Liverpool are not facing any such problems, and thus, unless the Catalans step up their work, the Premier League side would be the favorite to land Jeremie Frimpong this summer.
