Liverpool’s Luis Diaz has made his stance clear—he wants his contract extension sorted as soon as possible. As reported by TBR Football, the Colombian’s representatives have informed the club of their urgency to finalise new terms. However, Liverpool are taking a measured approach, balancing contract negotiations across the squad.
The club has been engaged in renewal talks with key figures such as Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah. This has meant that negotiations with Diaz, Curtis Jones, and Ibrahima Konate have been placed on hold temporarily. Nevertheless, Liverpool remain committed to securing Diaz’s future at Anfield.
With Arne Slot potentially overseeing a reshaped attacking unit next season, Liverpool are open to offloading Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa, while Salah’s future remains unresolved. Given these uncertainties, losing Diaz is seen as a scenario the club cannot afford.
Barcelona have been linked with Diaz, but the Catalan club have other attacking priorities, including Mason Greenwood. Despite this interest, Liverpool view the £37m winger as a crucial part of their attacking structure moving forward.
Slot has relied heavily on Diaz, who has excelled in a central role, making him Liverpool’s third-highest scorer this season with 13 goals across all competitions, alongside three assists. His goal in the 2-1 win over Wolves underlined his importance in Liverpool’s title charge.

The Dutch manager has been vocal about his desire to keep Diaz long-term, and the club is now working to ensure his contract extension is secured.
For Liverpool supporters, Diaz’s desire to stay is a welcome boost. In a summer that could see a significant reshuffle in attack, the club cannot afford to lose another key piece of their frontline. Salah’s future is uncertain, and Nunez’s long-term fit remains questionable, meaning Diaz could be central to Slot’s vision.
His versatility and ability to play across the front three make him an invaluable asset, and at just 28, he is entering his peak years. Liverpool’s decision to take a patient approach is understandable given ongoing negotiations elsewhere, but securing Diaz’s future must become a priority soon.
With Barcelona sniffing around, Liverpool cannot afford complacency. Ensuring Diaz remains at Anfield would be a significant statement of intent as the club prepares for a new era under Slot.
