According to Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid star, Marco Asensio. (h/t The Sun)
Despite his obvious talent, the Spanish international, 23, has struggled for regular playing time at the Bernabeu, since he joined from Real Mallorca in 2015. The winger has suffered a slight dip in form in recent times as he scored just six goals across all competitions last season.
The report claims that the Reds could land Marco Asensio for £67m, with Jurgen Klopp a big admirer of his talents. Keeping that in mind, should Klopp persuade his club to pay £67m to acquire the Spaniard’s signature?
Without a shadow of doubt, yes! It seems clear Liverpool want to strengthen their attack this summer as Asensio is the latest name to be linked with the club in that position. Following Daniel Sturridge’s release, the Merseysiders are left with Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi as only experienced alternative to their dynamic front-three.
In Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, the Reds have one of the best attacks in Europe. But Klopp is in dire need of someone who can pierce the tightest of defences with his passing and creativity– something they have duly lacked following the departure of Philippe Coutinho. While Shaqiri and Origi have their own strengths, the addition of someone like Asensio could help Liverpool compete Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.
Asensio is considered as one of the best young attackers in European football and has tasted rich success with Real Madrid at such a tender age. He is quick and agile on the ball, which enables him to beat his marker and play an incisive pass in the final third. The Spaniard has a sweet left-foot with which he has already scored a few bangers from long distance at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 23-year-old’s pace coupled with his dribbling skills, energy and movement makes him such a deadly player in the final third. At the age of 23, Asensio could be an ideal long-term investment for Liverpool as they aim to win the Premier League next season.
There is no doubt that the Reds have to pay a lot of money to sign Asensio from Real Madrid, but he will be a great fit for Klopp’s brand of football at Anfield. The Spanish international’s career has stuttered a bit at Madrid and a move to Liverpool could help him revive his career.
