Liverpool look at SV Sandhausen for backup goalkeeper | OneFootball

According to Sport Bild, Liverpool have identified goalkeeper Patrick Drewes from 2. Bundesliga side SV Sandhausen as a player of interest. Per the report, the Premier League side have contacted the 29-year-old’s representatives and see him as the ideal backup for regular goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Drewes is currently fighting relegation with Sandhausen but could find himself near the top of European football next season. His contract is due to expire this summer though it’s reported that this will be automatically renewed. This means Liverpool will have to pay at least a couple of million euros for their new goalkeeper.

It sounds odd for Liverpool to look at the German second division for a backup goalkeeper but they’ll have to rebuild in that area come next summer. This is because current backup Caoimhin Kelleher (23) is seeking more playing time, perhaps elsewhere, and Adrián’s (35) contract is also expiring in June and will unlikely be handed another extension.
