Diego Llorente has penned an emotional farewell message to Roma and its supporters after returning to his parent club Leeds United, which has ended an 18-month stay in the Italian capital.
Llorente thanked the Giallorossi fans for ‘allowing him to live the dream’, and says that he now considers himself an extra Roma supporter.
Llorente originally joined Roma in January 2023, when Jose Mourinho was still at the helm. It was originally a six-month loan deal, which was then extended for another full season in the summer of 2023.
“I can only say thank you, Roma!,” he wrote in a long message on Instagram. “It’s been an unforgettable year and a half, during which I’ve been really happy and understood what it means to be a Romanista.
He continued: “Wearing the Roma jersey was a big responsibility, but a unique feeling at the same time! I end this period feeling satisfied, having fought for this badge and having left everything on the pitch, with pride and honour.
“I will always remember the great nights at the Stadio Olimpico, the derby atmosphere and more than 70,000 people singing the Roma anthem. Thank you to all the fans for your unconditional support, and thank you to the people who allowed me to live this dream, which I will never forget.
“From now on there will be one more Romanista to support the team. Forza Roma!”
The Spaniard is now expected to return to pre-season training with Leeds, where he is under contract for a further two seasons, until the summer of 2026.
