Loan Hero Černý ‘Confirms’ Exit – Rangers Priced Out by £8M Fee

Vaclav Černý has all but confirmed his Rangers departure with a short but heartfelt message thanking the fans “for the memories” – and with no option to buy in place and an £8M fee reportedly required to keep him, his Ibrox career appears over.
The Czech winger, who joined on loan from Wolfsburg last summer, has been one of Rangers’ standout attackers this season, delivering a strong return in goals and assists and quickly becoming a favourite under Philippe Clement and then Barry Ferguson. But while Cerny’s form helped keep Rangers in the title race, finances were always going to dictate this one.
And now, with the player posting a simple “Thanks Ibrox” message to Instagram following what is likely his final Ibrox appearance, it seems the door is closing on any faint hopes of a permanent stay.
Rangers simply can’t afford the £8M Wolfsburg are demanding — a figure confirmed by a German source this week. That kind of money just isn’t there unless a major sale like Raskin materialises, and even then, reinvesting that into one player seems highly unlikely.
The bigger frustration? He wanted to stay. Černý was settled in Glasgow, loved the atmosphere at Ibrox, and was open to making the move permanent. But like so many loan players before him, it’s ending with a handshake and goodbye.
The timing couldn’t be worse. With the future of several other attacking options uncertain, losing Černý means yet another hole to fill in a squad already full of question marks. Barry Ferguson, unlikely to remain past the summer, will leave behind a short-term rebuild job that the new manager will now need to rip up and restart.
So we bid farewell to one of the better signings of the season. Reliable, creative, hard-working — and never once hiding when the pressure was on.
Thank you, Vaclav. You deserved more than just a loan.
