Los Angeles Galaxy's defense has one scary trend during the 2025 MLS season... so far

The Los Angeles Galaxy won 19 games last season in addition to the MLS Western Conference's second seed. They went on a historic run as they scored 18 goals that postseason on the way to the 2024 MLS Cup trophy.
However, this year's team is resembling the 2023 version of the LA Galaxy. Two seasons ago, they won just eight games. In 2024, the team lost that many.
"It's disappointing to give up two goals because I feel like once we kind of settled in and became a touch more patient on the ball and closed up some of the spaces, then I felt like, okay, everything was relatively managed."Greg Vanney, LA Galaxy Head Coach
In 2023, the LA Galaxy scored just 51 times while allowing 67 goals. A major turnaround happened last season where the team scored a conference high 69 times while allowing 50 goals.
So far this season, the defending champions have allowed a league high 14 goals. Sporting Kansas City, who won their first game on Saturday, have allowed 12.
The season opener at home did not go well for the six-time MLS Cup champs. They were defeated by the newcomers, San Diego FC, by a score of 2-0.
Andres Dreyer not only scored at the 52nd minute, but he did so again at the 90+3' mark at the end of the game. This isn't the only time a player scored twice in the same game against the LA Galaxy.
Kelvin Yeboah added two goals in the 2-1 loss on the road on March 22. Luckily, a late score from Chrstian Ramirez preserved a draw, but defense struggled once more.
On Saturday, Diego Luna had both of the goals for Real Salt Lake. That's all it took to hand the Los Angeles Galaxy their fifth loss in seven games.
"And for us, like I said, it's one game at a time, and if we can turn everything around, we can get there. We can't be looking at the big picture and saying we're going to go all the way to the final. We have to go a game at a time and making sure that we get our job done."Diego Fagundez, LA Galaxy midfielder
As the LA Galaxy's offense isn't exactly performing well either (five goals scored in seven games), the defense has to lock it down against the opposing offenses. Luckily for the Galaxy, their next regular season game is at home versus another struggling offense, the Houston Dynamo.
The Dynamo have also only scored five times in seven games. Ezequiel Ponce, Amine Bassi, Franco Escobar, Nicolás Lodeiro, and Jack McGlynnh have eached scored once for Houston.
Hopefully the trend does not continue next Saturday. The LA Galaxy are the only team in the MLS Western Conference still looking for their first win.
