Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided a fresh insight into his plans for the right side of the club’s backline moving forward.
The right-back berth in Real Madrid’s squad has of course long proven a prominent talking point in Spain’s capital.
As much comes with the long-term injury suffered by Dani Carvajal having given rise to something of a dilemma for Carlo Ancelotti and his staff.
Lucas Vázquez was initially installed as the new first-choice option in the role.
A string of questionable defensive performances, coupled with an injury of his own, however, saw Vázquez’s readiness to take over the role full-time thrown into serious doubt.
Federico Valverde then stepped in, and conjured up several outstanding displays.
With the Uruguayan given the night off in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night, though, it was Raúl Asencio who was tested in the position.
Speaking to the media post-match, the subject of the right-back battle in his squad was in turn put to Real’s headmaster.
And Carlo Ancelotti went on to explain:
“Lucas, Valverde or Asencio? I will choose the right-back (based on) each game.”
