The Lions have an outside chance of playing in the English top flight next season.

Ex-AFC Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor has admitted that he would love to see his old rivals and first club Millwall get promoted to the Premier League this season.

Recent criticism has been levelled at England's top flight for being too robotic, boring and predictable. Every team knows exactly what the opposition wants to do, and it all feels a bit rehearsed when you watch it.

If there ever was one thing that would shake that up, it'd be the Lions making their debut in the Premier League. The Den has never witnessed top flight football since its rebranding in 1992, and it would be sure to make a splash if Alex Neil's side did make it up this season via the play-offs.

Lyle Taylor makes surprising Millwall promotion admission

Taylor - the current Colchester United striker who has played for some of the Lions' London rivals throughout his career - has admitted on the 'Football Daily' podcast that he thinks it would be brilliant if Millwall became a Premier League side.

He asked the podcast's host, Aaron Paul: "Wouldn't you love to see someone like Millwall make it (to the Premier League)? Just to upset the status quo of Premier League football? Nobody outside of South East London would want to see Millwall in the Premier League.

"I'd love to see Millwall in the Premier League, just to see how somebody different can upset how things are done at the top table. I'd love to see it.

"Just like when Luton (Town) did it, it was just so different and so refreshing to see something different.

"Aaron, me and you went to the Brentford versus Chelsea game and it was dull. It was boring. Millwall would never be involved in that boring 0-0 in the Premier League. It would be all blood, guts and thunder.

"Millwall would go up there and go 'Right, you're going to get beat up. You come to The Den and you're having it.' And I think that it would be brilliant. I'd love to see it."

"I'd love to see it for the fear that goes into the eyes of the Metropolitan Police," Paul added. "Could you imagine on all those derbies? (Crystal) Palace, West Ham: it'd be great. Anyone who turns up to The Den, Chelsea, you name it, it would be quite the occasion, wouldn't it?"

Millwall would be such a fun watch in the Premier League

When Luton went up two seasons ago, they were given a chance at staying up by pundits because of the uncomfortable atmosphere they would create at their stadium. Crank that up a fair few notches and you've got The Den's presence.

No team would be able to properly prepare for it. The Liverpool's, Arsenal's and Manchester City's who play on pristine, modern grounds with beautifully cut pitches, would rock up to Lewisham and be completely unprepared for what was to come; a gritty, painful battle against a completely unknown entity. It would be box office stuff.
