Richard Keys has been left stunned at what he has heard from the Chelsea training ground by someone close to the club.

The Blues dropped points in a disappointing draw to Ipswich last weekend as they lost further ground in the race for Champions League football.

Chelsea have been on a poor run since Christmas and have dropped to sixth in the table one point behind Manchester City in fifth.

The pressure has been growing on Enzo Maresca following the draw with Ipswich, but it’s believed his job is safe for now.

Whilst Chelsea are clearly still in with a chance of Champions League qualification, the draw with the Tractor Boys felt like the end of their hopes given the tough run-in.

Jamie Carragher has stated it would be a disaster if Chelsea missed out for the third season running, and the Blues face tough trips to Fulham, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, whilst they host Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton.

If the Blues are to stand any chance they will likely need a minimum of four wins, which given their current form doesn’t appear likely.

Chelsea should have beaten Ipswich and Keys has now revealed what he heard from someone close to the club in the build-up to the game.

“I’m more of the view that Chelsea are still flaky,” he wrote in his blog.

“The current group are Spursy. I know someone who was at the training ground Friday and he said he could sniff Sunday’s performance. Everything was wrong. And that’s how it played out.

“There’s no doubt Chelsea have a talented group. The problem is it doesn’t seem to matter enough to them. And Maresca doesn’t appear to know how to ‘whip’ them.”

Keys went on to claim he believes Maresca is prioritising the Conference League over the Premier League, which he described as “absolute madness.”

“Madness. Absolute madness. If he doesn’t want out he’s got some making up to do now. Winning the Conference League might not be enough to get Chelsea fans back onside, although adding a success like that to his CV would suit him.

“I’ve got mates who are Chelsea fans and they’re convinced Maresca wants that more than a top 5 finish – because he won’t be around next season.”
