Milan legend Paolo Maldini and current Rossoneri left-back Theo Hernandez had a pleasant exchange on social media after the Frenchman levelled the former captain’s record for goals scored by a defender in Rossoneri colours.
Both defenders currently have 29 goals on their Milan records, although at 26 years of age, Theo Hernandez could potentially have several more years to go even further.
Theo equalled Maldini’s record with a superbly taken goal to put the Rossoneri two up in their eventual 3-0 win against Lecce in Serie A on Friday evening.
“Victory and 29 goals with Milan. Pleased to equal my idol, Paolo Maldini. Forza Milan,” Hernandez wrote on Instagram in the aftermath of Friday’s 3-0 win.
Maldini has since responded with a gracious reply, pointing out that Theo Hernandez still has many years ahead of him.
“Grande Theo,” Maldini wrote. “The small difference is that I did it over 25 years, it took you just five! You are special.”
