RCD Mallorca star Vedat Muriqi on Saturday evening secured for himself a piece of modern Spanish football history.

This came owing to his exploits in Mallorca’s meeting with Espanyol.

The Bermellones marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Espanyol to Son Moix for their final outing before the international break.

When all was said and done, the evening’s hosts emerged triumphant, owing to a 2-1 scoreline.

And to say that the aforementioned Muriqi played a leading role in the outcome would be something of an understatement…

Mallorca’s experienced frontman featured from the off at Son Moix, taking his place as boss Jagoba Arrasate’s attacking spearhead.

And Muriqi went on to open the scoring in proceedings early in the 2nd-half. Unfortunately for the Kosovan, however, as much came at the wrong end, by way of an own goal.

An outing to forget for Muriqi then took another turn for the worse ten minutes later, when he was responsible for fluffing his lines from the penalty spot.

And yet, when all was said and done, the 30-year-old still managed to prove himself match-winner.

In frankly incredible scenes, after seeing teammate Abdón Prats also miss from 12 yards, a VAR check culminated in the spot-kick being retaken.

And, a full seven minutes into injury time, it was Muriqi who stepped up, slotting home to secure a memorable victory for Mallorca.

In the process, meanwhile, the attacker made history.

As revealed by statistician Mister Chip:

‘Last players with a goal, own goal and missed penalty in a single La Liga match:

‘Sergio Ramos against Sevilla in 2018.

‘Vedat Muriqi against Espanyol in 2025.’
