Despite being heavily tipped to be included in Didier Deschamps’ senior squad, Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola ultimately missed out. However, the former Olympique Lyonnais winger has been included in Thierry Henry’s France U21 side.
Rayan Cherki is the major absentee. Despite frequently performing well for Les Bleuets, he has often underwhelmed for Lyon. He has seen his game time reduced under Pierre Sage ahead of an expected summer departure.
However, in the meantime, he has lost his place in the France U21 side. Mathys Tel, who is also struggling for game time at Bayern Munich, also misses out on the matches against the Ivory Coast (22nd March) and the USA (25th March).
Barcola makes the cut and will perhaps feel unfortunate not to have been selected for Les Bleus, as will Chelsea’s Malo Gusto, who has strung together a run of good performances.
