Manchester United have underperformed in attack this season, with the strikers and their supporting cast failing to deliver the goods.

The Red Devils are poised to sign a centre-forward this summer, but there are other holes in the squad to plug, particularly regarding the players behind this new striker.

Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes has been sensational this term, but he needs more help as United bid to become a better attacking force.

United have been linked with a few exciting names. The latest on the list is RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. He recently signed for the German outfit permanently in January for €50 million after deciding to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

United are not the most financially buoyant club. They will be wary of committing such a massive sum to a transfer after recent mistakes in the market. They also have other holes that require plugging.

Over the week, there were reports that Simons had disrupted the Leipzig dressing room and the club is prepared to let him leave. He responded to those claims with a goal as they beat Borussia Dortmund.

Despite this being an underwhelming season for the Man United transfer target, the 21-year-old has still registered eight goals and five assists in 25 appearances across all competitions. It is a drop from his 10 goals and 14 assists in 41 outings last season, but this dip is normal, especially for youngsters.

Simons has been tipped to be one of the best attacking midfielders in the world since his youth days with Barcelona and PSG. Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman said, “he is a great player and will be a great player.” He would be an excellent addition to the United attack.
