Man United ‘Offered the Chance’ to Sign £45m Juventus Midfielder – Report

Tuttosport’s latest report suggests Manchester United may solve two pressing problems in one masterstroke this summer — by parting ways with misfiring striker Rasmus Hojlund and bringing in midfield dynamo Douglas Luiz.
Rasmus Hojlund has had a difficult debut season in the Premier League, and patience appears to be running thin. Despite a hefty fee and high expectations, the 22-year-old striker has scored only nine goals in 47 appearances across all competitions — a return that simply hasn’t justified the investment or the faith shown in him.

Only four of those goals have come in the league, which speaks volumes about United’s struggles in front of goal. As reported, “United’s lack of ruthlessness in front of goal is among the main reasons why they have endured such a poor Premier League season, with Hojlund one of the biggest culprits.”
Current head coach Ruben Amorim has made no secret of his ambitions to reshape the attacking line-up. Douglas Luiz Offered as Deal Sweetener
Enter Juventus, who are now leading the race for Hojlund. According to Tuttosport, the Italian giants have taken “concrete steps” to acquire the Danish striker and are considering offering Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz in exchange to finalise a swap deal.
It’s a tactical move — and potentially a very smart one. Juve are reportedly feeling the heat from Napoli’s interest and want to seal the deal swiftly. Including Luiz, whom United have previously shown strong interest in, could tilt the balance.
Tuttosport describe Luiz as an “important card” in the negotiations, suggesting that his inclusion could significantly increase the appeal for United. The 26-year-old midfielder moved to Juventus from Aston Villa for £45million in July 2024, but he’s yet to hit his stride in Serie A.

Midfield has been a growing concern for United, with Casemiro’s influence fading and his exit widely expected. Amorim is looking for a player to support Manuel Ugarte while adding presence and composure in the centre.
Douglas Luiz fits that profile perfectly. He’s got Premier League pedigree, tactical versatility, and experience in big matches. According to the article, “Luiz would be a great option as he has plenty of Premier League experience and seems to be available on the cheap.”
His fanbase in England is still strong — Paul Merson once called him “the most underrated Premier League player”, while Alan Shearer described him as “dominant”. Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant even went as far as to say Luiz was “better than Declan Rice.”
Those quotes may raise eyebrows, but they underline the sort of quality Luiz has shown before. If he can rediscover that form, this could be one of the deals of the summer.
Interestingly, Luiz had previously been earmarked by Juventus in a different swap scenario involving Joshua Zirkzee, but they’ve now switched focus entirely to Hojlund. This shift in strategy could be United’s gain.
By moving swiftly and decisively, United can offload a player Amorim views as “expendable” and bring in a midfield leader capable of helping turn their fortunes around.
Douglas Luiz could offer the composure and control United have lacked in midfield since Michael Carrick’s heyday. If this deal comes to pass, it could be the turning point in a rebuild under Amorim that many fans have been crying out for.
As a Manchester United supporter, it’s hard not to get excited about this. Let’s be honest — Hojlund gave it his all, but he simply hasn’t lived up to the hype. His hold-up play has improved, sure, but this isn’t the learning academy. This is Old Trafford. Goals are the currency.
Now, swap him out for a midfield general like Douglas Luiz? That’s genius from Amorim. Luiz has the bite, the vision, and the experience to slot straight into that holding role. We’ve been crying out for someone who can do what Casemiro did in his first season — break up play and launch attacks with intelligence. Luiz can do that.
Let’s not forget how dominant he looked at Villa. He was the engine behind their midfield, always reading the game two moves ahead. And as Merson said, he was totally underrated. I still remember him bossing Liverpool and Arsenal — now imagine him doing that in red.
This potential swap also shows Amorim isn’t here to wait around. He’s building something real. Offloading a misfiring striker and gaining a top-tier midfielder? That’s shrewd. And if we still go for Victor Osimhen or someone like that up top — wow. That’s a serious statement.
If this deal gets done, it could mark the real start of a new era at United. One where players are chosen for tactical fit and mentality, not just marketing value. Amorim’s fingerprints are all over this one, and that gives me real hope.
