Man Utd hold PSG on UWCL debut

Scorers: Malard 70′; Chawinga 54′

Manchester United earned a hard-fought draw on their maiden Champions League appearance against Paris Saint-Germain.

The two-time finalists’ experience showed as Marc Skinner’s side endured a torrid first half where Mary Earps was the busier goalkeeper.

Tabitha Chawinga handed Les Parisiens the lead early in the second half by latching onto a ball over the top and tidily slipping it home.

But substitute Melvine Malard pulled the Red Devils level by powering home after Millie Turner’s header across back goal from a corner.

United can book their place in the group stage by overcoming PSG in the return leg at the Parc des Princes on 18 October.

Popp rescues Wolfsburg in Paris thriller

Scorers: Thiney 8′, Bordieu 15′, Dufour 44′; Endemann 4′, Popp 30′, 73′

Paris FC held Wolfsburg during a six-goal thriller at the Stade Charléty.

Vivien Endemann opened the scoring with a rolled long-range effort into an empty net after Chiamaka Nnadozie’s botched clearance.

The hosts levelled just four minutes later through Gaétane Thiney’s rebounded effort from Lisa Schmitz fumbling her initial effort.

It was not long before Sandrine Soubeyrand’s side finally took the lead with Mathilde Bourdieu slipping the ball past Schmitz.

Alexandra Popp restored parity for last season’s finalists by heading home from Joelle Wedemeyer’s right-sided cross.

But Julie Dufour restored the hosts’ advantage shortly before half-time with a sublime volley from the edge of the penalty area.

Wolfsburg rallied after the interval with Popp equalising again from a downward header at Lena Lattwein’s dipping free kick.

Eintracht trounce Sparta

Scorers: Anyomi 6′, Freigang (PEN) 14′, 76′, 77′, Reuteler 57′

Laura Freigang racked up a hat-trick as Eintracht Frankfurt comfortably trounced Sparta Prague.

Nicole Anyomi broke the deadlock for Niko Arnautis’ side by side-footing from Lara Prašnikar’s cross in the sixth minute.

The hosts would go further ahead when Freigang added a second from the penalty spot after Aneta Dědinová had hauled down Barbara Dunst.

Things went from bad to worse for Sparta as they saw Aneta Pochmanová sent off early in the second half for a reckless last-ditch challenge on Freigang.

Die Adler extended their advantage when Géraldine Reuteler met Dunst’s left-sided cross from the byline with a bullet close-range header.

Freigang doubled her tally in the closing stages by heading home from Verena Hanshaw’s delivery before sweeping home a third from Reuteler’s cutback a minute later.

St Pölten hit Valur for four

Scorers: Mattner-Trembleau 13′, Schmacher 53′, Mädl 59′, 63′

St. Pölten took a commanding lead in their qualifier with a four-goal rout over Valur Reyjkavik.

Sarah Mattner-Trembleau opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Rita Schumacher doubled their lead in the second half.

A quickfire brace from Valentina Mädl, hitting the target twice in four minutes, assured a comfortable win for the visiting Austrians.
