Fabrizio Romano is reporting that “nothing has been decided” by Man Utd regarding the future of their goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Spaniard’s future at United remains unclear as his contract is due to expire at the end of this season.

Man Utd are in a decent position though as they have an option to automatically extend his deal by a further year.

United were linked with several goalkeepers during the summer as they looked to recruit a new backup to De Gea. They ended up settling on Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United.

The Red Devils are now being linked with highly-rated Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa.

De Gea is now aged 31 so he is approaching the end of his career. Erik ten Hag also likes to play out from the back and he is not great with the ball at his feet.

But Ten Hag stated earlier this week that he has been “really happy” with the United star.

“We didn’t make a decision on him but what I can say is that I am really happy with David de Gea as a keeper,” Ten Hag told reporters on Tuesday.

“His first two games of the season were not his best performances but after it, you see he brings us really a lot for the defence department, gives stability.

“As a person also I like him. I can really cooperate with him really well.

“But first we go to the winter and then we will talk about how we deal with such situations.”

He added: “In this moment we only think about performing. We have a lot of games to go, so I don’t want to get that interfered by talks.

“We have to focus on football, on performances, not on negotiating, that’s what we are doing now.”

Romano has backed up what Ten Hag has said as “there’s still nothing decided on the goalkeeper front”.

The respected journalist has also reported that “there’s nothing advanced” regarding Man Utd signing ex-Liverpool star Simon Mignolet.

The 34-year-old has rebuilt his career at Club Brugge in recent years after he was replaced at Liverpool by Alisson Becker.

“There have been lots of rumours linking different goalkeepers to Manchester United in the last few weeks, with David De Gea out of contract at the end of the season,” Romano wrote for Caught Offside.

“Right now, there’s still nothing decided on the goalkeeper front at Manchester United. You may have seen United linked with Simon Mignolet yesterday, but I’m told there’s nothing advanced there.

“De Gea would love to stay at Manchester United and the message from him has been very clear, but it’s now up to Erik ten Hag and the club to decide what to do.”
