Manchester United face a crucial decision regarding a few of their players following Ruben Amorim’s appointment as manager.

Antony has failed to impress since his £82 million transfer from Ajax in 2022. His agent, Junior Pedroso, has revealed that several clubs are interested in the forward.

He said (via journalist Fabrizio Romano): “Yes, many clubs have approached us for Antony’s move in January.

“These clubs wanted to understand the situation for Antony, so I can confirm that there’s concrete interest.

“To be fair, Manchester United have never expressed any interest to sell or loan out Antony to us. We never received this sort of communication so far.

“Man United management never told us that they want Antony to leave, despite the reports we see around about our client.

“I can say that Antony’s future is very much tied to Manchester United’s interests.

“If the club thinks it would be a good idea to loan Antony out in January so he can get more minutes and regain his trust, we will work together on that option.

“Otherwise, Antony is working hard to regain his place and show his best skills under the new coach Ruben Amorim.”

Antony has six months to prove himself

Former United manager Erik ten Hag was desperate to sign the Brazilian, and the club’s hierarchy blindly backed him.

Antony has bagged merely 12 goals and five assists in 93 appearances for the Red Devils.

Former United captain Gary Neville labelled him ‘embarrassing‘ for his behaviour during the 2023 Manchester derby against City.

The £16m-rated winger’s role has diminished this season, making just 11 appearances

Four of those 11 have come in the Premier League, where he has played just 80 minutes.

Amorim gave him an opportunity to thrive in the attacking role against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup.

He failed to repay the manager’s faith, producing an underwhelming display.

United could send Antony out on loan, but that would leave them short of attacking options.

The Portuguese manager has axed Marcus Rashford for four consecutive matchdays. His departure looks very likely next month.

Having Antony in the squad will be crucial but the next six months will decide his fate.

If he fails to revive his United career, it would be wise to put him on the transfer list in the summer.
