Both teams struggled to create clear chances before the break, with each managing just one shot on target.

Lisandro Martinez stepped up in the second half to fire United ahead in the 52nd minute. Cody Gakpo took just seven minutes to level the score with a thunderous strike.

Mohamed Salah turned it around for the hosts from the spot. However, Amad Diallo’s fine finish brought parity to the scoreline.

Harry Maguire had a great chance to become the match-winner, but he blazed his shot over the bar.

Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 7/10

Onana made a fine reaction save to deny Mac Allister. He couldn’t have done anything about either goal.

Noussair Mazraoui – 6/10

He should have been more vigilant about Gapko’s presence behind him for Liverpool’s first goal.

Matthijs de Ligt – 3/10

De Ligt was too hasty to go ground, which opened up the angle for Gakpo to shoot. He compounded the mistake moments later with a schoolboy error, conceding a penalty.

Harry Maguire – 6/10

Another robust and aggressive display from the England international. He could have stolen the show but failed to hit the target with the last chance of the game.

Lisandro Martinez – 8/10

Martinez made a clever lofted pass in the first half to find Rasmus Hojlund. He then took matters into his own hands, firing home a shot that gave United a surprising lead.

Diogo Dalot – 7/10

Dalot should have earned an assist with his delightful cross to Diallo. He picked up a booking with three-quarters of the game still to be played.

Manuel Ugarte – 7/10

Ugarte remained strong in duels and composed with his passing.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10

Sloppy with his ball distribution and failed to track Mac Allister’s late run in the box.

Bruno Fernandes – 8/10

Fernandes played a key part in two early half-chances for United. He showed great awareness to spot Martinez for the opener and was the catalyst for Diallo’s strike.

Amad Diallo – 7/10

Diallo should have held his run to meet Dalot’s cross as he squandered a golden opportunity. He redeemed himself with a fine finish to bring United level.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5/10

A poor finish from Hojlund in the 1v1 opportunity against Alisson didn’t help United’s cause.

Substitutions

Alejandro Garnacho – 7/10

His first contribution was to give away the possession but found Diallo with perfection for United’s second goal.

Leny Yoro – N/A

Too late to rate.

Joshua Zirkzee – N/A

Too late to rate.
