MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Managua FC earned a 1-nil win over CSD Municipal to begin the second matchday in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Wednesday night at the National Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua.
Pedro Altán nearly placed the visitors up in the 30’ as the ball rebounded off the right post and away from the goal.
Altán tried again five minutes later, but the attempt was wide as the Guatemala side continued to threaten.
César Archila tried to get the ball on frame on a lob towards goal in the 57’, but Guatemalan goalkeeper Alyer López closed in on the Guatemalan forward.
Arley Bonilla converted from a penalty kick opportunity in the 65' to score the lone goal of the encounter.
Ewerton Bezerra had a look from outside the box in the 72’ but was off target.
Matías Rotondi had a shot inside the box in the 76’, but López captured the ball to negate any danger.
Archila had another look inside the box in the 83’ but could not get it on frame.
Altán had a hit from long range in the 85’ but was just wide of getting the equalizer.
The result gives Managua three points as Group D opened play. Managua will host Deportivo Saprissa in its next encounter on Tuesday, August 6, while Municipal will host Real Estelí on Thursday, August 8.
