Etihad Stadium bosses have reportedly added one of Real Madrid’s star midfielders to the transfer shortlist ahead of the summer market, according to reports.

It is the latest development in a long line of transfer rumours building up to what is expected to be a very busy window of transition for Manchester City consisting of both arrivals and departures from Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

Alongside the arrival of Hugo Viana into the role of sporting director, succeeding the long-standing official Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City are set to bring in a brand new generation with the overhaul of their playing roster starting in January.

Two central defenders in Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis were brought in alongside Omar Marmoush to bolster the attack, while the deadline day arrival of Nico Gonzalez from FC Porto added much-needed legs and energy into midfield.

But such is the work required within Pep Guardiola’s playing squad that the aforementioned Spaniard is unlikely to be the only midfield reinforcement, with City reportedly turning their attentions to European rivals Real Madrid for one target in the middle of the pitch.

That is according to the information of Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who claims that Manchester City have now added Eduardo Camavinga to their list for the summer transfer window and are actively monitoring the France international.

It is further explained that the 22-year-old’s representative agency, CAA Stellar already has ‘strong ties’ with Manchester City and recently facilitated Omar Marmoush’s big-money transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in the January window.

However, while many clubs are said to be interested in Camavinga alongside City, the player himself is yet to decide whether he even wants to leave Real Madrid in the coming summer market, with his current contract running until 2029.

Camavinga may bring some much-needed positional versatility to Pep Guardiola’s central midfield ranks, with the Frenchman also known to be capable to playing in the left-back role to a high standard as he has done for Los Blancos.

Such a signing could also free up players to operate in other positions, including reverting the likes of Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake back into their ‘natural’ centre-back positions having been depended on at full-back for a prolonged period of time.

It remains to be seen how much Manchester City would be willing to sanction on Camavinga in terms of investment, particularly given the fact that the club are known to be interested in an attacking midfield recruit with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz high on their radar.
