Manchester City had made contact with Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt over Hugo Larsson ahead of the summer transfer window, as per a new report.
City signed Omar Marmoush from Frankfurt for a reported £59 million in January, with the 26-year-old already proving his value having netted a hat-trick against Newcastle United and grabbing a crucial winner against Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola has hinted that the club will make some big decisions on contracts for a number of senior players who have underperformed this season, which could lead to a flurry of significant departures for the Blues ahead of the 2025-26 term.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso and Atalanta’s Ederson Silva are believed to be high on Manchester City’s summer wishlist.
Incoming sporting director Hugo Viana will back Guardiola in the transfer market to rebuild a young team hungry to fight on all fronts after City exited the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage this season and did not table a challenge for the Premier League title.
The four-in-a-row Premier League champions could yet finish the season on a high should they secure a top-four league finish and go all the way in the FA Cup, where they next face Nottingham Forest in the semi-final at Wembley.
City signed Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez for a net £181.5 million in January to cope with a rising number of high-profile absentees in the first-team.
As per the information of Florian Plettenburg reporting for Sky Germany, Manchester City have held preliminary talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over the possibility of signing Hugo Larsson in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old Sweden international has also attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham, with Frankfurt expected to demand as much as €60 million for the midfielder.
Larsson is under contract at Frankfurt till 2029 and the German side are expected to make the most of a possible bidding war for their in-demand youngster, who has established himself as one of Europe’s brightest talents since joining Frankfurt from Malmo in 2023.
