Manchester City have made AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders one of their top targets (h/t the Telegraph).
City’s current squad has several ageing players, particularly in midfield. Reijnders has caught their attention following a strong season in Serie A.
He is known for his smart play and excellent positioning. Reijnders mainly plays as a number eight but has also done well as a deeper midfielder.
Milan value the Dutchman higher than the £55 million they received for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United in 2023.
Reijnders could even become Milan’s most expensive sale if City agree to pay more than the £57m Real Madrid paid for Ricardo Kaka.
The club are looking for midfielders who can offer energy and control. Manager Pep Guardiola sees Reijnders as someone who fits the role perfectly.
However, Reijnders is not the only name on City’s list. The Premier League champions are monitoring Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
The 24-year-old has done well in the top flight and is seen as another strong option for City’s midfield.
City are also keeping an eye on Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. The young German playmaker had a fantastic season as Leverkusen won the Bundesliga last term.
Guardiola wants more competition across the pitch. Adding new midfielders to their squad is key to their plans. Reijnders is high on their list as they prepare for a crucial summer.
