Pep Guardiola revealed yesterday that Erling Haaland is set to be out for between 5-7 weeks. Haaland sustained an ankle injury in the second half of City’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth. It is a blow for City to lose their top scorer for a prolonged period. But his injury is an opportunity for Omar Marmoush and others to step up in his absence.

There is an opportunity that Oscar Bobb or Claudio Echeverri could be included in Manchester City’s matchday squad tonight. Bobb has continued training and must surely be close to a return to the City first team. Haaland’s injury may allow Pep Guardiola to give Echeverri a run in his matchday squad based on Manchester City’s needs in Haaland’s absence.

Predicted City starting eleven.

Ederson: I just can’t see Guardiola making a change in goal so I expect Ederson to continue between the posts.

Rico Lewis: Matheus Nunes got the start against Bournemouth but I expect Lewis to start tonight and step into midfield when his team has possession.

Ruben Dias: An automatic selection at the heart of City’s defence.

Josko Gvardiol: There is a strong case for Gvardiol to play as a centre-back tonight. His ability on the ball helped unlock Nico O’Reilly against Bournemouth, and he could do so again tonight.

Nico O’Reilly: Based on his second-half performance against Bournemouth, O’Reilly should start tonight. He’s earned that opportunity.

Nico: He surprisingly didn’t start against Bournemouth but I expect him to tonight in a must-win game for his team.

Mateo Kovacic: It’s a toss-up between Kovacic, Bernardo or Gundogan to partner Nico in midfield so I’ll give the nod to Kovacic.

Phil Foden: I expect De Bruyne to start in Sunday’s derby so I believe Foden will start in midfield tonight. He must step up in Haaland’s absence and if he can it could go a long way in helping his team.

Savinho: The Brazilian international missed Manchester City’s win over Bournemouth due to the birth of he and his partners first child. But with him back I expect him to play on the right wing tonight.

Jeremy Doku: There is a case for Grealish to start tonight but I believe Doku with start on the left wing.

Omar Marmoush: With Haaland out it’s now Omar Marmoush’s opportunity to lead the line for Pep Guardiola’s side. He has a big role to play tonight and he’s almost a certainty to start up front tonight.
