Manchester United defender Turner receives shock England call-up | OneFootball

Manchester United defender Millie Turner has received a shock call-up to the England squad for the nation’s upcoming fixtures against The Netherlands and Scotland in the UEFA Women’s Nations League.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official England squad update from The Football Association this afternoon.

Turner has been drafted into the England squad as a replacement for captain Millie Bright. The Chelsea defender is struggling with a knee injury and will remain with her club for treatment during the upcoming international window.

Manchester United defender Turner has previously represented England up to and including Under-23 level but she has never made an appearance for the Lionesses at senior level. The player did receive a call-up to the senior squad in September 2020 for a training camp but there was no competitive fixture played at that time.

England will play their final two rounds of matches in the UEFA Women’s Nations League during the upcoming international window. Sarina Wiegman’s side will take on The Netherlands in front of more than 70,000 fans at Wembley Stadium next Friday before ending the group stage with an away fixture against Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday 5 December 2023. The Lionesses must win both of those matches to have any chance of reaching the semi-finals.

Turner will link-up with the England squad after this weekend’s action in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
