Manchester United are reportedly targeting a summer move for Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, according to Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger.
The 21-year-old is considered one of the most exciting young attacking midfielders in Europe. His style of play and versatility have caught the eye of several clubs.
United have had a disappointing season. They will finish in the lower half of the Premier League table and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
With no Champions League football next season, the club is planning a complete rebuild under manager Ruben Amorim.
Cherki is one of their key targets ahead of the summer transfer window. Talks were reportedly held with Lyon officials when the two sides met in the Europa League earlier this year.
However, their failure to qualify for the Champions League could make it difficult for them to sign him.
Borussia Dortmund are also in the race to sign Cherki. The German club are working to improve their midfield options ahead of next season.
They are also interested in signing Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland. Dortmund see both players as future stars who offer energy and creativity.
Liverpool are not pursuing Cherki. Their focus remains on completing a move for Florian Wirtz.
Cherki can operate as a central or attacking midfielder and play across the front line.
The French midfielder bagged 12 goals and 20 assists across all competitions this season.
United will need to move quickly to secure his services. The summer transfer window could prove crucial for Amorim and his plans for the club.
