Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s system is unlike what the players have experienced in recent years and it is clear to see with the team losing seven out of 15 since his arrival.
INEOS and the Glazers before them have assembled this big-money squad to play transition-based football with fast wingers capable of hurting the opposition on the break.
While the Portuguese wants his players to keep the ball and use wingbacks for width while playing two No 10s alongside the striker.
The club is full of inconsistent wingers and judging from the January window, it seems INEOS is being forced to course correct with Amorim desperate to reinforcements as he seeks to avoid a relegation scrap.
Antony is expected to join Real Betis on loan while Marcus Rashford and Barcelona are in talks over a loan move with Borussia Dortmund also lurking.
Surprisingly, Alejandro Garnacho also seems to be heading to Napoli as things stand with Amorim demanding more attacking midfielders instead of wingers.
Fichajes have claimed Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz has emerged as an option with the report claiming Amorim is an admirer of the Moroccan’s versatility.
The 25-year-old can play out wide as well as a No 10 and even in a withdrawn forward role so he can fit in multiple ways into Amorim’s systems.
He has three goals and five assists this term but has started only seven times in La Liga and the lure of playing regular football at the Theatre of Dreams could be hard to turn down for a rotation player at Real.
While no concrete figures have been suggested in the report, Fichajes have claimed the Red Devils are prepared to make a significant offer to land the former Manchester City academy star in this window.
“Brahim Díaz, one of the most talented promises of Real Madrid, is on the radar of Manchester United, which sees the player as a top reinforcement.
“At 25 years old, the international with Morocco has shown his ability to make a difference on the field, but his future with the white team does not seem entirely defined.
“The English club is preparing a significant offer to secure his services in this transfer market. United’s interest is not new, but discussions could accelerate in the coming days.
“The coach of the “Red Devils” values the player’s versatile profile, able to adapt to different attacking positions and create imbalance against tight defenses.”
Diaz has a market value of €35 million as per Transfermarkt and Los Blancos could ask for a lot more to part ways midseason.
Garnacho’s sale could hand United the money needed to complete the deal but INEOS are better served utilising that money elsewhere with Amorim’s squad crying out for a ruthless striker.
