Manchester United’s reputation for developing stars from their academy is famed around the world with multiple young prodigies realising their dreams at Old Trafford.
Progression to this year’s Youth Cup semi-final is a sure sign United have another talented group at under-18 level and it appears another wonderkid is rising through the ranks at the club.
As reported by The Express, 14-year-old JJ Gabriel has been promoted to the under-18 set-up with the world’s best keeping tabs on his development.
The name of Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel might not be a recognisable one just yet but hopes are extremely high for the winger who has been tipped to reach the heights of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Global mega brand Nike have already signed the youngster on a deal believed to be one of the most lucrative for any footballer of his age in the history of the game.
The Express states Nike’s presentation to help convince the player to join them included a slide with the line “JJ can be Nike’s next in line for Ronaldo’s throne”.
Furthermore, discussions have taken place on how big a role Gabriel could play in the future of Nike with rumours the young man could become the face of their Mercurial brand in the coming years.
After catching the eye on YouTube with a video that branded him ‘Kid Messi’, Gabriel moved to United and has made an immediate impact in the youth ranks.
The forward has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 13 appearances so far this season, all for higher age groups than he would naturally play in.
Whilst United are in the driving seat to eventually tie him down to a professional contract, teams around the world are closely monitoring Gabriel’s story and will be ready to pounce if he decides his future lies outside of Manchester.
Gabriel was born in London but snubbed his local sides in favour of hopefully making it at the Theatre of Dreams, something United will be desperate for him to do over the course of his career.
With such an exciting prospect on their hands, United will be keen to ensure Gabriel positively navigates these crucial next few years which could make or break his future in the game.
No doubt Ruben Amorim will be aware of the young man and will be keeping a keen eye on his development through the youth ranks which now looks set to be with the under-18 squad.
