Manchester United are reportedly prepared to sanction a sale for misfiring forward Antony at around the £40m mark.

To say that Antony has been a disappointment since joining United from Ajax would be a massive understatement.

The Brazilian was signed in the summer of 2022 as he followed Erik ten Hag from Amsterdam. United forked out a hefty £86million to land him.

He has failed to live up to his massive price tag, managing just 12 goals and five assists in the 86 appearances he has made for the Reds.

Last season in particular, Antony’s performances were a constant source of frustration for supporters and he lost his place in the team to Alejandro Garnacho. Towards the latter stages of the campaign, even Amad Diallo jumped ahead of him in the pecking order.

This term so far, Antony has struggled for playing time, with Ten Hag once again demonstrating a clear preference for other attacking options on the right wing. This is despite the fact that Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Omari Forson all departed the club in the summer.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are prepared to part ways with Antony as early as the winter transfer window.

It was subsequently relayed that United would be open to including the 24-year-old as part of a deal to land Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze but the Eagles do not want him.

The Daily Mail now reveal that United are prepared to accept less than half of what they paid Ajax for Antony.

According to the newspaper, “United are ready to call time on Antony’s career at Old Trafford which has been a huge disappointment since he followed Erik ten Hag to England from Ajax in the summer of 2022, becoming the club’s second most expensive signing of all time.”

“United sources wouldn’t be drawn on Antony’s future, but Confidential understands that the club would listen to offers of around £40m for the 24-year-old.”

“By sending Antony out on loan in January to get more game time elsewhere, United may be able to attract more interest in the player next summer.”

Ten Hag’s men return to action on Saturday when they host Brentford.
