Manchester United are ready to ‘walk away’ from a proposed pursuit of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen is one of several strikers under consideration at Old Trafford as Ruben Amorim looks to sign a proven goalscorer this summer.
The Nigeria international has thrived on loan at Galatasaray this season, where he has scored 28 goals in 32 appearances for the Turkish champions. He is the leading scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig for a Galatasaray team who lead the title race.
Osimhen is available for a fee of around £55m due to a release clause in his contract at Napoli. The clause was agreed ahead of his loan to Galatasaray, following a fall-out at the Italian side. Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested, alongside several Saudi Pro League sides.
Despite a reasonable transfer fee in comparison to other options on the market, United are ready to walk away from a deal due to the player’s wage demands. The Manchester Evening News are reporting that the Red Devils are unwilling to match Osimhen’s expectations for a salary of around £9m per year.
Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is another on the club’s shortlist, while a pursuit of Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap could now be accelerated.
Delap will be available for just £30m if Ipswich are relegated from the Premier League this season, with the Tractor Boys currently 12 points from safety.
The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in the Premier League this season and would fit the club’s recent philosophy of investing in longer-term potential.
