Man United boss is taking nothing for granted as giants sit 12 points clear of relegation zone

Ruben Amorim says it's “impossible to feel comfortable" when addressing Manchester United's situation in the Premier League.

As a result, they sit 13th in the table before the trip to fellow under-performers Tottenham on Sunday.

In fact, by the time the Red Devils arrive in north London they will have dropped to 15th if Everton and West Ham pick up three points in their respective fixtures on Saturday.

This scenario would leave Man United at risk of ending the weekend in 16th should they lose to Spurs for a third time across all competitions this season.

Currently, the Manchester giants are 12 points above the relegation zone with 14 games remaining. Even though the possibility of a battle for survival is highly unlikely, Amorim insists the club can't take any comfort from any situation at present.

Speaking on Friday, he said: "If you see the table, it's impossible to feel comfortable. We just want to win, improve our performance, because we are Manchester United and we need to win the next game and improve.

"There is no comfort in any situation in this club."

Given United's struggles at Old Trafford so far this season, they have tended to fare better away from home - particularly under Amorim.

They came from behind to win the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium in December, delivered a much improved performance to draw 2-2 with Liverpool last month and beat Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup third round despite playing for over an hour with 10-men.

Whilst insisting Man United should not be the underdog in any game, Amorim admits he senses something different about his side in the big games away from home.

"I feel it in the game and the performance because you see it, I see it," he added. "Sometimes when you are the underdog, especially in big games, that is a thing we should not feel in any game because we are Manchester United.

"But I feel the players are more free. But when you have to win the game, you have to be more dominant in every aspect of the game - and I feel the team is not quite there. Sometimes the feeling is different when we play away."
