Manchester United are reportedly considering replacing Andre Onana, having earmarked three potential candidates.

Onana entered the clash against Olympique Lyonnais under the spotlight on the back of his comments that were not received well by Lyon midfielder Nemanja Matic.

This was his chance to show he deserves to remain between the sticks for United, but the Cameroonian delivered a disastrous performance, committing two howlers leading to goals in the 2-2 draw.

For the hosts’ first goal, Onana misjudged the direction of Thiago Almada’s free-kick and let the ball straight past him. Then deep in added time, he failed to control Corentin Tolisso’s shot, leading to an easy tap-in for Rayan Cherki on the rebound.

Since the start of the last season, the ex-Inter Milan star has made eight errors leading to goals in all competitions, the most of any keeper playing for a Premier League club.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the Lyon horror show was the last straw, as United are “seriously considering” a move to sign a new number one following the disappointing outing in France.

It is claimed Onana “has been losing the trust of coaches at Carrington in recent months after a series of underwhelming performances, and now there is serious consideration at the club to signing a replacement this summer.”

Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, Burnley sensation James Trafford, and Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens are all understood to be on United’s short-list of options.

Chevalier, 23, is the most experienced shot-stopper on the list, having proven his mettle in France and Europe with Lille. However, it is suggested that the Ligue 1 outfit are likely to slap a high price tag on him.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils face competition from Newcastle United for Trafford, who has kept 28 clean sheets in 40 Championship appearances.

Lammens, known for his incredible reflexes, would likely be the cheapest option, with his contract at Antwerp due to expire in the summer of 2027.

The arrival of a new first-choice goalkeeper should spell the end for the 29-year-old at Old Trafford as he is very unlikely to be used as a cover option. It is claimed that United are “hopeful that an offer from a Saudi club might materialise” this summer.
