Former Leeds United and Athletic Bilbao boss Marcelo Bielsa is now set to become the next Uruguay manager.
TYC Sports‘ journalist Joaquin Bruno has reported about the managerial situation of Uruguay following their elimination from the FIFA World Cup in the group stages.
While it was previously reported that Bielsa was one of the candidates to become the manager, the decision has been made and the Argentine will be aiming to make sure that Uruguay qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He is set to replace Diego Alonso soon and start his third stint with a South American side.
Alonso’s future with the national team is uncertain because of Uruguay’s results and he will leave the side, if the Uruguayan FA decide to not renew his contract with the team. After the win over Ghana, the manager refused to speak about his future but everything indicates that he will not continue.
