Maresca sends message to Chelsea fans after protests against owners: ‘They have to trust us’ | OneFootball

Enzo Maresca urged the Chelsea supporters to “trust” the club following protests against the ownership ahead of the win over Southampton.

Chelsea thrashed Southampton 4-0 thanks to goals from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella but the victory was preceded by vocal protests outside Stamford Bridge against the club’s BlueCo owners.

But Maresca insists the club are on the right path and called on fans to stick with the team.

“First of all, I was focused on the game so I didn’t know about outside,” Maresca said.

“The only thing I can say at this moment is that I think the fans have to trust (us) because we are in the right process, we are in the right direction.

“I said many times that since we start, I think we have been in the top four or Champions League spots for most games of the season.

“That means we are in the right direction, the club is in the right direction, and especially, I think they have to trust the players because the players are doing a huge effort every day to bring this club where this club has to be, that’s in the Champions League.”

The victory over Southampton sees Chelsea move back up to fourth in the table.

Maresca’s side were on a run of just two wins in ten league games going into the clash and the Blues boss says it shows how good his side were in the first half of the campaign while calling on the players to finish strong.

“Probably we are in our worst moment in terms of results but we are fourth, one point from third,” he said. “And we are in our worst moment.

“That means a lot and also shows how good we have been in the first part of the season. Now it’s a matter of finishing in the best way.

“It was a very important win because we know now every game is important.”
