Marquinhos re-elected PSG captain

Just like at the start of last season, Marquinhos’ (30) role as captain of Paris Saint-Germain was on the line with a vote on the club’s captaincy taking place.

Last year’s vote, it was interpreted, was a recognition of Marquinhos’ middling form for much of the prior season. The first vote was public, the second anonymous as the Brazil international, and PSG’s all-time record appearance-holder, retained the armband for another season.

However, despite a better season, there was once again a vote on Marquinhos’ captaincy. Unlike last season, that vote came after the closure of the transfer window. L’Équipe understands that, following the return from the international break, that vote has now taken place.

Luis Enrique said that he didn’t expect the armband to change hands, and L’Équipe understands that he has been proven right. The publication reports that the PSG dressing room has re-appointed Marquinhos captain. Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Presnel Kimpembe have been appointed as vice-captains.
