Marseille will not sign attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni from Inter Milan permanently after the Argentine suffered an ACL injury.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Carboni is reeling from a serious ACL injury.

The 19-year-old suffered the injury while in training with the Argentina national team over the international break.

There is still a fair bit of uncertainty over how long exactly Carboni will be out for. But it will be some time.

The minimum amount of time before the Argentine can return to the pitch would be six months. And it would likely be even longer than that.

Therefore, there is every chance that this ACL tear is a season-ending injury for Carboni, just a couple months into the campaign.

A number of high-profile players have suffered similar injuries in recent weeks.

These have included Manchester City midfielder Rodri, Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal, and Juventus defender Bremer.

Over the summer, Carboni joined French giants Marseille on loan.

This followed an impressive season with Monza, which had prompted a fair bit of interest in the teenage attacking midfielder.

But in the end it was Marseille who convinced Carboni to join. He was reportedly a priority target for coach Roberto De Zerbi.

Moreover, Marseille also have a purchase option on Carboni.

They can sign the Argentine on a permanent basis for a fee of around €40 million. Then, Inter have a buyback option.

But one thing now looks clear: Marseille will not sign Carboni on a permanent basis.

The Argentine may not even feature for the French club over the rest of the season, having just been playing his way into the lineup in recent weeks.

Carboni may in fact return to Inter to recover from his injury.
