Chancel Mbemba (30) risks spending a whole year on the sidelines. The centre-back was ostracised from the first-team set-up in the summer with Roberto De Zerbi making it clear that he did not feature in his plans. Whilst part of first-team training after, for legal reasons, he was taken out of the “loft”, De Zerbi has made it clear that his stance has not changed.
As a result, Mbemba has not featured at all this season. His future clearly does not lie at Marseille, especially given that his contract expires at the end of the campaign. If he wishes to play between now and the end of the season, he will have to leave the Vélodrome – and there are takers.
As reported by Foot Mercato, Stade Rennais, FC Nantes, and Montpellier HSC have all shown interest in the former Newcastle United man. Rennes’ interest is recent, however, Mbemba has turned them down. Montpellier and Nantes are both interested but given his reaction to Les Rennais’ approach, it looks unlikely that their interest will be reciprocal.
OM are still demanding €3m for the centre-back, whose contract expires in just a matter of months.
