Here’s what happened.
Scorers: Frattesi 1′, MartĂnez 45+3, 47′; Kabasele 35′, Lucca 83′
Inter immediately banished any thoughts of their derby defeat to Milan with a route-one style goal after just one minute.
Matteo Darmian played a long through ball forward for Davide Frattesi to get between two defenders and scuff his shot beyond Maduka Okoye.
Yet Udinese have plenty to offer this season and they hit back ten minutes before half-time when Christian Kabasele directed his glancing header perfectly beyond Yann Sommer.
On the stroke of half-time, Lautaro MartĂnez fired home his first goal of the season for Inter, converting from a cross supplied by Federico DiMarco from the left-hand side.
That seemed to have lifted the pressure on the Argentina international, and two minutes into the second half as Marcus Thuram put a cross into the box and MartĂnez let fly with a powerful first-time shot into the roof of the net.
Udinese made things tricky when they got their second with seven minutes of normal time remaining through Lorenzo Lucca, but Inter managed to hold out for this much-needed win.
