Mason Greenwood (23) remains in th race for the Golden Boot in Ligue 1 and has had a successful debut campaign at Olympique de Marseille, however, following public criticism from manager Roberto De Zerbi, he could leave the club at the end of the season, accoring to BFM Marseille.
Greenwood has so far scored 15 goals in Ligue 1 (only Ousmane Dembélé has scored more), putting Marseille in the driving seat to secure a podium finish and – crucially – a return to the UEFA Champions League. However, his work rate has recently been questioned by De Zerbi. . “I expect more from him. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough,” said De Zerbi in a press conference attended by Get French Football News. “If he wants to achieve his ambition, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined.”
The former Manchester United forward was subsequently dropped for Le Classique against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday. Within this context, Greenwood’s days at the Vélodrome may be numbered. “He is a player that can make a big difference but honestly, if h doesn’t react, questions will be asked about a departure for Greenwood this summer,” RMC Sport journalist Florent Germain told BFM Marseille.
He added, “If he isn’t able to understand that his manager and his directors fought against a risk – more than a sporting risk – in bringing him, to give him a visisbility, because OM isn’t Getafe….” It therefore cannot be ruled out that, for a second summer running, Greenwood may be on the move.
