Despite being rock-bottom and destined for relegation, Monza were the match of Antonio Conte's side for much of the first half, with Scott McTominay's free kick being the only true chance.

After the break, Napoli stepped it up, knowing a slip-up would see their title hopes near-slip away.

Stanislav Lobokta and Romelu Lukaku both had decent efforts, but couldn't get past the impressive Stefano Turati.

The Monza goalkeeper would finally be beaten with just 18 minutes left, and, again, McTominay proved to be his side's hero.

He rose highest to meet Giacomo Raspadori's excellent cross, beating Turati to the ball, and sending the travelling fans wild.

They could have made the game safe in the late stages, but held out to secure a crucial win, and put their former defender Alessandro Nesta in close to terminal trouble of the drop.

Napoli are level on points with Inter, but behind on goal difference, with just five games remaining. Inter play tomorrow away to Bologna in arguably their toughest fixture in the run-in.
