Jonathan David will be one of the most-sought after players in European football with his departure from Lille all-bit certain by the end of the season. There is already a six-way race of Premier League sides vying for his signature, according to a report from The I. Speaking at a press conference attended by Get French Football News, Canada teammate Derek Cornelius spoke about the Lille forward and the potential to bring the highly sought-after striker to Marseille. “Maybe Medhi Benatia needs to get on a call with his agent to try and convince him,” said Cornelius with a smile. “We would welcome him with open arms, but we haven’t opened those doors yet. He’s a super player and a great guy, but no we haven’t spoken about that at all.” With his contract expiring at the end of the season, it seems that the Lille striker will leave at the end of the season. Following Canada’s 2-1 victory over neighbours USA (where Cornelius also featured) David’s future was once again broached in a post-match interview with CBS. “I’m not sure if I’m staying or going, but if I do end up going I think I have to push myself at the very highest level.” He added, “When you play for a big club your position is never guaranteed and you have to fight… I’m never guaranteed anywhere I go to start every game. I have to perform. I’m willing to fight. I know it’s an important year, it’s a big decision, so I’ll make a wise decision.” GFFN | George Boxall – Reporting from La Commanderie, Marseille.
