Here are some of the main talking points from the key performances in the sixth round of matches of the 2025 season.

Messi’s magic

The greatest footballer ever in many people’s eyes, Lionel Messi continues to shine even at 37-years-old. His Inter Miami side faced off against Philadelphia Union in a huge clash between two of the league’s best sides. The Argentine started on the bench due to his recent injury but he entered the play in the 55th minute and within two minutes of coming on, fired the ball into the back of the net. His goal would prove decisive, as Miami rose to the top of the Eastern confernce standings following a 2-1 victory.

New England finally find the net

In their fifth game of the season, New England Revolution have finally scored a goal. Their only goal prior to this weekend came from a comical own goal. This week they found the net for themselves in their 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls. It was Carles Gil who got New England off the mark, with a beautifully struck free-kick goal. The former Aston Villa man was then on target again as he converted an injury time penalty to secure New England’s first victory of the season.

Atlanta prevail in seven goal thriller

Atlanta United hosted New York City for what would be the standout game of the MLS this weekend. The meeting turned into a seven-goal thriller, with the home side eventually winning 4-3. It was Atlanta’s summer signing from the Championship that would prove decisive. Emmanuel Latte Lath scored the winning goal in the 84th minute which is already his fifth MLS goal since joining from Middlesbrough in the summer.

Muriel sinks LA Galaxy

Orlando City were another side that enjoyed a late winner in the MLS this weekend. Luis Muriel fired home in the 90th minute to steal all three points from LA Galaxy. The Colombian has been finding form and this was his fifth successive match with a goal contribution. Whereas for Galaxy, their terrible start to the season has continued. The reigning MLS champions are yet to record a victory and this was their fourth defeat of the campaign.

Kansas City continue to struggle

Sporting Kansas City are another team that are struggling. They have been the worst side in the MLS so far this season, earning just a solitary point. They suffered defeat again this weekend, this time at the hands of FC Dallas.
