Spain 5-0 Andorra
Spain have kicked off their Euro 2024 preparations in fine style, hitting Andorra for five in their opening warm-up match in Badajoz.
Luis de la Fuente rested many of his big-hitters, with many players given the opportunity to stake their claim for the final 26-man squad. Ayoze Perez – making his La Roja debut – did his chances no harm, as he scored the opening goal after 24 minutes, firing home from close range after being set up by Pau Cubarsi.
It stayed 1-0 until half time, at which point four substitutions were made by de la Fuente. One of those to come on was Mikel Oyarzabal, who made his mark early into the second period as he finished from close range following an Ayoze cut-back.
Oyarzabal would complete a 20-minute hat-trick soon after. He scored into an empty net on 66 minutes after being played in by Ferran Torres, before scoring at the second attempt seven minutes later to complete his treble.
Ferran got on the scoresheet himself soon after, having been set up by Fermin Lopez, who was another debutant to impress in Badajoz. That proved to be the final goal of the evening, as Andorra managed to avoid any further strikes.
A routine victory for Spain, and one that will build confidence ahead of their final warm-up match against Northern Ireland this weekend. A stronger line-up is likely in that fixture, as de la Fuente aims to provide an idea into his starting XI for the opening Euro 2024 match against Croatia.
