I Rossoneri came into the weekend clash against Davide Nicola's relegation candidates on the back of a hopeful boost in the wake of their Supercoppa Italiana success over bitter rivals Inter just days ago.

But fortunes in the league have hardly been vintage Milan as the club began the night sitting eighth in the table and 17 points off table-topping Napoli, with tonight's result reflecting growing frustrations in the fashion capital.

Milan were dominant throughout proceedings but failed to find an opener until six minutes into the second stanza thanks to Spanish striker Álvaro Morata, who pounced to tap home from close range after Christian Pulisic had his initial effort parried away.

A massive blunder by French international Mike Maignan gifted Cagliari an equaliser four minutes later when Nadir Zortea's tame effort from distance slipped under his outstretched hands, stunning the San Siro crowd into silence.

Not since May of 2021 have Cagliari taken any points off Milan at their famous ground, but there was no better time to share what was on offer as the visitors now have earned points in their last two league outings.

Conceição will certainly be frustrated tonight after his side registered 22 shots and four big chances while boasting 68% possession across 90 minutes of action, highlighting the task at hand despite their recent cup triumph.

Milan remain eighth in the table while giving themselves the slightest bit of breathing room over Udinese in ninth, and are now four points from the top six and the European places.
