Milan Mayor Growing Concerned About New Stadium Saga

Mayor Giuseppe Sala has a vested interest in the project for the new San Siro seeing the light of day in a timely fashion, as Milan and Inter would most likely leave the city otherwise. The bureaucratic process, which started with the decree to sell the area, is only in its infant stages. He issued a warning talking to the press (via Il Giornale).
“If we can’t build the stadium, Milan will go to San Donato, and Inter to Rozzano. The risk of the Rossoneri departing is very high since they bought the land and invested tens of millions already.”
Sala wishes to power through the obstacles.
“I think we will manage despite the opposition and the likely appeals. It must be clear that, we’ll either complete the first step by October, or everything might fall apart. Should we be left with San Siro, we’d have to put it to use to avoid problems with the Court of Auditors. At that point, we’d sell it to event organizers, and it’ll host a plethora of concerts.” “I believe that a San Siro without football would be the worst possible solution for those who live in the neighborhood. Instead, with a brand-new soundproof arena, we promise there will no longer be music at the nearby Maura racetrack.”
Milan have laid more groundwork than their crosstown rivals about an alternative site, but they might use it for their youth academy, Futuro squad, and women’s team. Sala ruled out one possible outcome, which has been floated, should the Rossoneri ownership get frustrated with the process.
“There are zero chances Inter buy San Siro on their own.”
