FLW takes a closer look at two emerging talents coming through at Charlton Athletic.
Many players have come through the ranks at Charlton Athletic before making an impact in the first-team, so it should come as no surprise that there are several youngsters with plenty of promise who are currently at the club.
A number of players have made an impact at Charlton Athletic after being part of the academy at Sparrows Lane over the years, including the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Ezri Konsa, who went on to establish themselves in the Premier League.
There are several exciting young players who are currently part of the youth set-up at Charlton, and they will no doubt be hoping to follow in the footsteps of those who have made it into the first-team squad before them.
Academy graduates Miles Leaburn, Tyreece Campbell, Daniel Kanu and Karoy Anderson have regularly featured under Nathan Jones this season, while Kaheim Dixon, Josh Laqeretabua, Henry Rylah, Alan Mwamba and Kai Enslin have all been given opportunities in the senior squad over the course of the campaign so far.
Young striker Patrick Casey is another one to keep an eye on, with the 19-year-old having attracted interest from Brighton & Hove Albion and Celtic last year during a prolific season in the under-21s.
Let's take a look at two other talents who could potentially save Charlton money if they are able to step into the first-team squad, rather than the club needing to make new signings in their positions.
Defender Zach Mitchell has enjoyed an excellent couple of years at Charlton, and is one of the most promising youngsters at the club.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Colchester United, before he returned to SE7 in the summer and showed Nathan Jones that he is a player who could make a real impact at The Valley during the coming years.
Jones spoke highly of Mitchell in an interview with London News Online earlier this season, suggesting that he will be given chances to prove himself in the first-team under the Welshman.
"I really like him," said Jones.
"When I came in we had a big squad and he was on loan. I didn’t really get as many eyes on him but I wanted to keep him here because I had heard good things about him.
"He did excellently in pre-season and relatively excellent in terms of certain things. He is growing week in and week out."
He signed a new long-term contract in October, further highlighting the faith that the club has in his ability to develop and be an important player in the future.
An injury limited the amount of minutes that Mitchell played during the first half of the season, although he has featured in all four competitions that the Addicks were involved in this term, and he will be hoping to make further appearances during the remainder of the campaign.
Teenage striker Micah Mbick is another player who could prove to be a good player for Charlton in the future.
The 18-year-old has appeared on the bench in League One for the Addicks this season, but with there currently being so many forward options available to Jones, he has not yet been given any opportunities in the first-team so far this term.
Mbick netted three minutes into his senior debut for Charlton in the FA Cup against Cray Valley Paper Mills last season, showing the sort of finishing ability that enabled him to score so many goals alongside Patrick Casey in the youth teams during the 2023/24 campaign.
There are plenty of players at the club who could save Charlton money if they continue on an upwards trajectory in their development, with Mitchell and Mbick being just two of the exciting young talents at Sparrows Lane.
