Henrikh Mkhitaryan hinted that he might retire at the end of the season in an off-the-cuff comment near the end of the pre-game presser before facing Bayern Munich, but specified that it’s unlikely to be the case in an interview with Amazon Prime Video (via Fantacalcio).

“I’ve already said that I wish to stay one more year here, but we’ll see. We have so many matches that there is no time to think about the future and contracts. We’ll finish the season and then reason with the management. If they still want me here, I’d gladly do it. Otherwise, it’ll seek happiness elsewhere.”

Mkhitaryan previewed the return leg against the Bavarians.

“We have to do our best and prepare very well. Our 100 percent might not be enough. It’s not true that we celebrated too much after the first match. We are mature, have experience, and are well aware that these clashes last 180 minutes. Maybe they saw something different, but we were just happy for the result, knowing that there would be another game to play.”

Mkhitaryan was asked whether he believed they could really win the Champions League.

“At the moment, our goal is to advance, then we’ll see whether we’ll reach the final or not.”

If Inter held onto their narrow lead over Bayern Munich, they’d face Barcelona in the next round. The Blaugrana risked versus Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, considering their 3-1 loss, but landed the plane after prevailing with a three-goal margin at home.

According to the journalist Alessandro Alciato (via Tuttomercatoweb), there’s almost no chance Mkhitaryan departs in the summer. He plans to see out his contract, which lasts until 2026.
