Mohamed Camara hits back at criticism over anti-homophobia controversy | OneFootball

Mohamed Camara (24) has hit out at the criticism he has received for his actions during Ligue 1’s anti-homophobia campaign on his social media, declaring that he is not at AS Monaco to “support causes about imposed sexual orientation.”

The LFP’s anti-homophobia campaign was marked by controversy on the final day of the season when the Monaco midfielder refused to have his photo taken under a banner looking to end discrimination. Camara also covered up his shirt’s anti-homophobia badge and the rainbow symbol on the Ligue 1 logo.

It was a decision that was immediately criticised with the Monaco manager Adi Hütter suggesting that the club would be having “internal conversations” with the player on the matter. Monaco also apologised directly to the league. While the French sports minister, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, has called for sanctions for both the club and the player.

The Mali international has since hit back at the criticism he’s faced stating on his Instagram story “African players are in Europe to play football and not to support causes about imposed sexual orientation… yes to religious freedom.”
