Officials from Saudi Arabia remain confident they are still in with a chance of signing Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah this summer.

Salah's Liverpool contract has just three months left to run and he has shown public frustration towards the lack of progress towards an extension which, alongside uncertainty surrounding both Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, has sparked some unwanted tension among Reds fans.

Alexander-Arnold is thought to have agreed a deal to leave and join Real Madrid on a free transfer, but reports suggest there is still confidence that both Salah and Van Dijk will sign extensions before the summer.

According to The Telegraph, officials from the Saudi Pro League recognise that Salah is still giving priority to Liverpool but remain full of confidence that they are firmly in the race to sign the Egyptian at the end of the season.

Salah is said to have an open line of communication with Saudi dealmakers and there is a belief that he would be willing to make the move to the Middle East if Liverpool fail to meet his demands over a new contract.

Amid the uncertainty, one thing which is thought to be clear is that Salah will not leave Liverpool before his contract expires. The summer transfer window will open temporarily in June to allow teams competing at the Club World Cup, including Al Hilal, to bolster their squads before the tournament, and they could feasibly make an offer to buy Salah out of the final few weeks of his contract to ensure his involvement this summer.

However, Salah is not expected to make any moves at that stage of the transfer window, regardless of whether he does eventually leave Anfield on a free.

Liverpool are retaining their patience in their bid to strike a deal over a new contract with Salah, keen to avoid forcing him into making a decision. The same stance has been taken with Van Dijk, who reportedly has interest from both Saudi Arabia and Europe.
